Description

We are now in spring and the snow retreats to higher altitudes.
This excursion brings us along the long and aerial ridge of Mount Porrara in the Maiella Massif. Here the snow stays for a long time and is always abundant. We will use snowshoes probably in the last part of the route before reaching the summit at an altitude of 2137 m.
Although the itinerary is long, it is interesting and panoramic. Wide views open towards the mounts of Abruzzo National Park, the Mount Greco, the whole Majella massif, Mount Amaro, the Peligna Valley, and more.
The ridge is interesting for its spring blooms and also for the presence of high altitude "stazzi" (typical rural settlements).

Program
Meeting point: Valico della Forchetta m. 1257 (ex FFSS train station in Palena) at 9:00
Excursion from the pass Valico della Forchetta to the summit of Mount Porrara.
Return: to starting point at about 16:00
Gap: +900 m. - Walking hours: 6h - Difficulty: medium

Good trainig for mountain walking is required

In case of modification of the itinerary due to causes external to the organization (adverse weather conditions, technical level of the participants, etc.) the unforeseen expenses will be debited to the participants.
