High mountain
Description

You will be introduce to high mountain environment going through glaciers and ridges or along the "normal" routes to 4000s of the Alps.

Objectives

  • the students will learn how to hike safely through glaciers and how the auto-rescue technique (crevasse rescue)
  • classic and "normal" routes to 4000 m peak in Alps will be faced.
A good physical condition is required.

Topics

  • gear and safety (knots, anchors on rock and snow media, set and clean top rope anchors, rappelling, short roping, rope team management, pulleys for crevasse rescue, self arrest)
  • crampons technique
  • rock and ice climbing technique with boots

Equipment

  • one 300 cm accessory cord in Kevlar®

Clothing:

  • Sunglasses for high mountain / glacier
  • Cap
  • Buff – Foulard
  • High mountain gloves
  • gaiters
  • Thermal underwear
  • Fiber turtleneck sweater
  • Windstopper or fleece jacket
  • Waterproof jacket (ex: Gore-tex, pac-lite, conduit…)
  • Mountain pants in schoeller
  • Mountain socks

Inside the backpack:

  • One fiber T-shirt
  • A pair of mountain socks
  • Ski mask
  • Extra light gloves
  • A headlamp with new batteries
  • Personal pharmacy kit (compeed patch, aspirin, high protection sunscreen, ...)
  • Waterproof overpants (ex: Gore-tex, pac lite, conduit, k-way)
  • Camera
  • 1 lt bottle or Thermos
  • Case with toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Paper towels
  • Multi-purpose pocket knife
  • Sleeping bag liner

NOTES
The cost includes the guide fee and the use of the common material (ropes, referrals, etc), any room and board are not included.
Any missing material may be provided by Mountain Evolution.
The course requires for a minimum number of participants, if this is not achieved, the program will be canceled or performed with the integration of the fee from the members.
