Advanced ice climbing and dry tooling
Description

This course will focus on the advanced use of the technical equipment, both for ice and rock terrains. The rules of the dry-tooling tecnique will be illustrated teaching the progression using ice axes and crampons on mixed terrains. In order to become self-sufficient on itineraries, trainees will experience the climbing of multi-pitch ice falls even as lead climber.
The course is aimed at those who have already attended the basic course or with previous experience in ice climbing itineraries, familiarity with rope maneuvers and ice roped party. Good climbing technique and physical condition are recommended.

Topics:

  • materials and safety (anchors on rock, stops, first and second rope insurance on multi-pitch routes on icefalls, management of the rope and the ascent)
  • objective and subjective hazards and risk minimization.
  • ice climbing technique (dry tooling advanced progression)

Equipment
Harness, 4 ring-type carabiners, PETZL-type descender “mod. Reverso”, mountaineering helmet, two 120 cm tapes, one 80cm kevlar cord, crampon shoes, two ice axes, ice-falls crampons.

NOTES: the cost includes the guide fee and the use of the common material (ropes, referrals, etc), any room and board are not included. Any missing material may be provided by Mountain Evolution.
The Course demands for a minimum number of participants, otherwise the program will be canceled or performed with the integration of the fee from the members.

NOTES: Due to the unpredictable conditions of ice falls in the Center of Italy, dates are only indicative and could be changed.
